What is EMS?

Emergency medical services, also known as ambulance services or paramedic services, are a type of emergency service dedicated to providing out-of-hospital acute medical care, transport to definitive care, and other medical transport to patients with illnesses and injuries which prevent the patient from transporting themselves.

What is an EMT?

Emergency Medical technicians are clinicians, trained to respond quickly to emergency situations regarding medical issues, traumatic injuries and accident scenes.

Is Wharton EMS a part of Wharton Fire Department?

Wharton EMS is a separate entity and not part of the fire department.  

What is the difference between BLS and ALS?

Basic Life Support usually only requires the care of an EMT or an Advanced EMT.  Advanced Life Support requires a Paramedic for patients that may need more advanced care such as cardiac monitoring or advanced airway management.

Where can Wharton EMS transport me to?

Wharton EMS can transport you to the closest appropriate hospital. Due to call volume and limited resources, we may not be able to always transport you to the hospital of your choice.

How do I request an ambulance run record?

You must come to the station, 2010 N. Fulton, Wharton, TX 77488, and request a record in person. Please bring your ID or DL.  You will have to fill out a Patient Request for Access Form. 

How much will I be charged?

Can I call Wharton EMS for a lift assist? Is it Free?

Yes; you may call 911 for a lift assist. Please contact Prudentia for any billing inquiries at 979-282-9955.

Who has access to my private information?

Your information is protected under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).  Your information is protected and encrypted on our servers. It is sent to the billing company and all documents are shredded.

Can Wharton EMS just give me a ride?

No; Wharton EMS is for 911 emergencies and only transport to the Hospital Emergency Department.

Do you offer any classes?

Yes; Wharton EMS offers CPR, ACLS, and PALS classes.  Please call 979-532-4811 ext. 700 for more information.

What if I have a compliment or complaint?
